Comments = I applaud your efforts in describing this neighborhood. If only you would've lived there, then you'd have a complete picture of this area. I grew up 2 blocks east of McArthur Park and did attend Berendo from '80-'82, and Belmont from '82-'86. Afterwards, I attended LA Community College some and then joined the Army and got out. Doesnt sound like much has changed, it actually sounds like it has gotten worse. I'm really thankfull my mother has moved from the area after much begging and pleading. Again thank you for taking me down Nightmare Avenue and rest well knowing some of us did get out Alive and Kicking.

      Dear Armando,

Thank you for the nice words about my webpage. You remind me of a buddy of mine Martin ( http://www.rjgeib.com/friends/martin/martin.html) who grew up near the corner of New Hampshire and Pico. He begged his mother to move for years and she finally agreed some few months before the riots. Marty also made it out of that area and is now a successful businessman who actually came to speak to my students at Berendo Middle School. Martin and I met at UCLA and have been friends ever since.

How about you? Did you go to Berendo/Virgil and then Belmont and then college? I would be curious to hear.

      Very Truly Yours,

      Richard Geib
